Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How can we help you?

Thank you for considering New Lambton Family Dental to care for your family’s smiles.

Below, we have compiled some of the questions we hear most often from patients. If you do not see your specific question addressed, get in touch with our friendly team today.

Preventive and General Dentistry

Our dentists recommend exams and teeth cleans regularly and according to your oral health. During these appointments, you will receive an examination and an oral cancer screen, which may be more treatable if caught in the earliest stages.

Cleans are important because stubborn tartar and bacteria cannot always be cleared away through brushing and flossing alone. Our hygienist has equipment and technologies available to help clear away bacteria that may lead to gum disease, cavities and infections. Our hygienist will also give you tips to help you maintain your teeth and gums better between visits to our New Lambton, NSW dental clinic.

If you have a specific dental issue, one of our dentists or hygienists may recommend a custom treatment schedule to help keep your teeth and gums in good order. This may include extra dental cleans and specific target therapies.

At New Lambton Family Dental, our goal is to keep you and your family members smiling through the ages, and this means regular preventive dentistry.

Periodically, one of our dentists may recommend an x-ray if there are no recent x-rays on file or if a dental issue is suspected.

If you haven’t been to your dentist in a while, we would love to welcome you back. If it’s time to schedule your exam and clean, we anticipate your call.

Children's Dentistry

The dentists at our New Lambton, NSW practice recommend your child see the dentist around the age of three unless you have a specific concern. When kids are this age, our dentists are better able to communicate with them, and this makes the dental clinic feel more welcoming and less scary. At this age, we can show kids the instruments and explain in age-appropriate fashion what the dental instruments are all about, or we can show them that the dentist clinic can be fun.

We suggest bringing your children to our dental clinic so they can observe your dental appointment first. If mums and dads seem happy to be getting an exam or clean, this may make it easier for your child later on.

During the first exam, children ride in the chair for a laugh, and we work hard to set them at ease and engage with them throughout the visit. Our dentists do a fun exam, and our caring and gentle team gives positive attention as well.

Our team has experience with children, and we work hard to make your child feel at ease by learning what works best for him or her.

We build relationships with our youngest patients and make efforts to instil positive oral hygiene habits from the start.

If your child is ready for the first dental exam, we invite you to give our New Lambton, NSW dental clinic a call to book an exam.

Same-Day Crowns and Restorations

Our dentists are proud to offer same-day dental crowns in New Lambton, NSW. We also offer one-visit bridges and veneers. This has put a stop to temporary restorations and a go on same-day smiles.

CEREC technology in our dental clinic means our dentists can digitally measure you for a new crown, upload those measurements and create your crown immediately in our on-site mill—a crown ready for you same day. No messy moulds. No waiting for crown arrival.

Your dental crown will be made of quality and sturdy ceramic. It will also be overseen by a dental professional right here in our New Lambton, NSW dental clinic.

One of our dentists will polish and colour your crown to replicate your smile and add all finishing touches during your visit.

Our dental team wants you to have the smile you’ve always wanted sooner rather than later. That’s why we offer CEREC technology in our dental clinic.

If you want to schedule a consult about CEREC same-day dental crowns, bridges or veneers, we invite you to call our New Lambton, NSW dental clinic.

Dental Emergencies and Root Canal Treatment

At New Lambton Family Dental, we make every effort to give patients a painless dental experience. Our dentists have experience with numbing and keeping pain at bay.

Root canals have a reputation for being painful, but it is generally the root infection that is causing the pain and not the root canal therapy. We also use rotary endodontics in our New Lambton, NSW dental surgery as well. This is a technology designed to give an easier and quicker root canal. With this therapy, our dentists do not have to file away the damaged tooth, which can take time.

No matter the procedure, Dr Maria Paez and Dr Jonathan Michael are keen to make it as painless as possible. Patients are often surprised by the gentle and easy way our dentists can complete their root canal therapy in New Lambton, NSW.

We always recommend calling for an appointment at the first sign of a root infection because the mild pain of early infection may develop into a dental emergency.

The symptoms of a root infection include one or more of the following:

  • Tooth pain or sensitivity
  • Jaw pain
  • Tooth discolouration
  • A blister or bump on the gum

If you’re experiencing tooth pain, we invite you to give us a call.

Cosmetic Dentistry

If you’re unhappy with the colour of your teeth, professional teeth whitening in New Lambton, NSW is designed to provide a solution to stained or yellow teeth.

Professional teeth whitening in-chair may provide a faster whitening process than take-home whitening treatments, but time in-chair varies based on the tooth shade you’re looking for and the strength of the prescription gel.

Take-home whitening, on the other hand, relies on custom trays designed to fit your mouth. You take these trays home, along with our prescription whitening gel, and whiten on your own over a predetermined period of time. A member of our team will provide custom instructions just for you.

The process begins, however, with an assessment by one of our New Lambton, NSW dentists. A careful exam will determine whether a professional tooth whitening is a good option for you. Considerations may be made for restorations or specific oral health issues.

Professional teeth whitening treatments have been shown—through our experiences with patients—to dramatically whiten teeth.

If you’re considering professional teeth whitening in New Lambton, NSW, we invite you to give us a call to schedule your consultation.

Dental Implants and Bridges

At New Lambton Family Dental, we understand that you want to enhance your smile, and find the best solution for tooth loss in New Lambton, NSW. Our dentists believe that dental implants are very similar to natural teeth.

A dental implant begins with an assessment by one of our New Lambton, NSW dentists. If it is determined that you are a good candidate for dental implants, the next step is x-rays to decide the best placement for your dental implant post.

Following this, Dr Maria Paez or Dr Jonathan Michael surgically implant your post—it is a small titanium screw that bonds with your jawbone to create a solid tooth root for your crown, implant-supported denture, or supported bridge. It generally takes several months for the implant post to thoroughly bond with your jawbone.

When healing and bonding are complete, you are ready for your restoration.

At New Lambton Family Dental, we colour and shape your restoration to match your smile.

The entire process may take several months, depending on healing time between implant post and restoration placement.

If you’re considering dental implants in New Lambton, NSW, we welcome you to call our dental surgery to book a consultation.

We proudly serve New Lambton, Adamstown, Kotara and surrounding locations.
